I won’t give it away; I’ll let you figure out why this piece is is ironic (let me know if you get it. If you’re on my FB then I already mentioned it so don’t give it away :-)). Again this is the Mother Cabrini Feast. I’m enjoying this series and I hope you do too.
I’ve been organizing my photographs on my hard drive through Lightroom and then, I’ve also started editing the photos. So much for organizing! So when my mom passed my friend invited me to the Calbrini Feast in Brentwood. My parents never took me to this and it comes every year in Brentwood. Oddly enough, I never had an interest to go either! But I am glad I went that night. Looking at these photographs, I like how they look in black and white. Now I’m inspired to do a black and white series at the carnival in the near future.
When I was a girl watching the Green Machine marching band, I longed to march with them. I thought they were the coolest! And they were! And still are! The reputation of the school has gone down the drain, I still love the Green Machine. 2015 was the last time I saw them – my niece carried on the torch of participating in the band. It was an honor to be a part of this organization in high school. We had such discipline. Anyway, this was the 5 week summer program (I guess it’s still called that). I’m so grateful for these kids. It was nice to get to see these kids that work so hard.
I lived on Long Island my whole childhood and I never went to the Feast of Mother Calbrini in Brentwood NY. I grew up in Brentwood too. Actually Bay Shore, but I went to the Brentwood schools. I never had the desire to go until my friend asked me to go after my mom passed. I just learned that there’s a statue of Mother Calbrini at the festival and you attach a dollar to her dress. The money is then donated to charities. Since I didn’t know who she was, I had to look her up; Saint Frances Xavier Cabrini was a major support to the Italian immigrants to the United States. But anyway, it’s a nice festival with a bunch of junk food and rides. 🙂
Are you tired of seeing buildings yet? I hope not.
